Bail

David regularly appears for clients seeking bail in both the District Court and the High Court. He understands the significance of bail applications to his clients and their families, and will ensure all relevant supporting information is provided to the Judge to ensure the best chance of bail being granted.

Trials and Defended Hearings

David is an effective advocate who understands the value of preparation. He has been lead counsel in trials from traffic offences to murder, including in a number of high-profile jury trials involving significant media interest. As a former prosecutor, David is able to identify the weaknesses in a case. He will guide you through the process from start to finish and ensure your defence is presented in a way that appropriately reflects the individual facts of your case. David is available to accept private instructions and legal aid cases involving serious offending.

Discharges without Conviction

In some cases it is possible to plead guilty, or be found guilty, and avoid a conviction. David has successfully argued for numerous discharges without conviction. He will ensure you are fully informed of the steps you can take to maximise the chance of avoiding a conviction and the associated consequences.

Appeals

The appeals process is an essential component of our criminal justice system. It is a safeguard against miscarriages of justice. David has successfully argued appeals in the High Court and Court of Appeal on a range of issues. He is available to take private instructions as well as all legal aid appeals, including to the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
